Black Applied Behavior Analysts Announces Name Change to The Black Association of Behavior Analysts

Today, we proudly announce that Black Applied Behavior Analysts, Inc. is now The Black Association of Behavior Analysts (BABA).

This change symbolizes our organization’s evolution, our deepening purpose, and our recognition that Black behavior analysts are not confined to a single corner of the field. While our previous name centered on applied practice, our new identity expands to affirm the full range of spaces in which Black behavior analysts lead and contribute, including all other branches of Behavior Analysis, behaviorism, experimental analysis of behavior (EAB) and professional practice. We are not just clinicians; We are caregivers, consultants, researchers, educators, community leaders, organizers, authors, artists, and more. We work across settings, across frameworks, and across continents.

“We stand on the labor, brilliance, and sacrifice of Black behavior analysts who made a way when there was none. This evolution is our offering to them. It reflects our commitment to revitalize what they began outside of the applied setting, renew our collective sense of belonging, and honor the full range of Black contributions in behavior analysis. Those in labs, homes, clinics, classrooms, and communities—we make room for all of us,” said Denisha Gingles, President of The Black Association of Behavior Analysts.

The Black Association of Behavior Analysts will continue to offer a wide range of programming, resources, and events, with a more inclusive foundation. While the acronym BABA will remain familiar to our community, it now stands for a broader and more accurate reflection of the work and impact Black behavior analysts make across all domains.

We invite our community and partners to join us as we continue to build an organization that is rooted in fellowship and fidelity, centers Blackness, built on bidirectional service, and is committed to accessibility, intersectionality, and collective liberation.

The mission moves because of us.

Our growth, our programming, and our ability to hold space for Black behavior analysts across the globe is sustained by the generosity of our volunteers, members and supporters. More specifically, those who believe in pouring into our community while also rightfully taking up space within it.
