This session provides an introduction to Motivational Interviewing (MI) as a framework for enhancing consultation practices for behavior analysts working in schools. MI, a collaborative and goal-oriented communication style, emphasizes building trust, respect, and partnership to empower consultees and foster sustainable behavior change. Behavior analysts often encounter challenges in building effective collaboration within school teams and systems. MI offers practical strategies to enhance collaboration by building strong relationships and empowering consultees to implement evidence-based practices effectively.
Participants will explore the foundational principles of MI, including active listening, partnership, and evoking motivation for change, and learn how to apply these techniques to common school consultation scenarios. This session will focus on providing behavior analysts with the tools to build stronger, more effective consultative relationships and empower their consultees to achieve meaningful outcomes. Attendees can expect a practical and engaging session designed to provide actionable strategies they can implement immediately in their school-based work.
